As soon as you roll off the railcar, you will need to decide which achievements you want to accomplish for the level Front Line: Hedge-Hopper (kill everyone who is armed in the level) and Rescue Ranger (save the Communist prisoners) go together, while Invisible Man (kill no one) is not.
IGN recommends you do Hedge Hopper and Rescue Ranger first, to get a feel for the level before you sneak through it. While your Sneaking Suit cannot take much damage, the extra stealth it bestows coupled with the VSV with Optics will let you start picking off enemies before they are fully alerted.
If this is a replay, killing everyone and looting their ammo is a better fit -- you can use the ammo for later levels. It's important to remember that for the Invisible Man achievement, you cannot kill anyone -- stealth is not a requisite for the achievement, but it certainly helps.
If you are interested in a moral point (when you are killing enemies) head back towards the start of the railway. Kill the two guards and insect the red box for a free pair of Night Vision Goggles (the Sneaking Suit will come with them, making this step unnecessary). What is of interest is the military ammunition in the box next to the goggles; taking them accrues a moral point.
Skip ahead towards the railcar you took to get onto the firing line. Wait for the soldiers to disembark from their transport (they will all head across the bridge and up to the Red Army base), or you can race ahead and ignore them. If this is your first time trying to avoid killing anyone, you may want to wait.
Go down the stairs at the bridgehead and you will have a chance to eavesdrop on two soldiers near a weapons box. Listening to their full conversation will net you a moral point. The way onward though, is past these guys, so move out.
Use nightvision to see the holes in the planking (the flashlight will reveal your position); snuff out the light in the bridge's underpass and stay close to the bridge support where an impromptu trial is being held. Witnessing the execution of the deserter will net you a moral point.
Wait for the political officer to move away and observe the pattern of the remaining guard. Note that if you didn't wait for the soldiers in the transport to leave first, you may want to find a dark, out of the way spot to wait for them to pass by.
To proceed, you need to cross the execution place, jump to the pipes and head down into the poisonous water (you will need to don a mask when you do). The egress point is past the support and over the railing. When the coast is clear, move quickly past the support column and hop the railing.

Locate the green glowing sewer entrance on the Nazi side of the warzone. Head there and beware of the three tripwires (all which you can disarm to accumulate a total for the Soft Touch achievement). When you enter the sewer, turn off your flashlight and revert back to the nightvision goggles.
Go up the ladder from the sewers and you can remove your gas mask there. Artyom should be in a storeroom with two lounging Nazis (stationary) and a patrolling one who wanders between the storeroom and the bottom of the stairs.
Wait for the patrolling guard to move near his buddies (he stays there long enough for you to sneak by to safety) and snuff out the gas lamps (not the electrical lights). Avoid switching off the generator, as that will immediately alert all enemies of enemy activity.
Get to the top of the stairs, and snuff out the gas lamp (be sure to avoid the broken glass on the floor); stay in the doorway and wait for the Nazi reinforcements to rush by to the front. Once they do (about five or so soldiers), see if the sentry near the doorway is around.
Once the door sentry is past the door (to your left) you can go out the door and make a right. Hug the right wall and snuff out lamps as you move up the tunnel. A heavily armed Nazi railcar will come down the track, then zoom back up the same way after it makes its rounds. You can ignore it and it will not attack you if you stay hidden and out of the range of its headlights.

Stay on the tracks and shadow the guard to the barricade on the tracks. With the Sneaking Suit, it's possible to crouch and sit next to the barricade and move around the immobile sentry when his partner moves off.

For the other achievement (Hedge Hopper is a given if you're doing a clearing operation on the whole level) is Rescue Ranger, and you should quickly dispatch the Nazi officer questioning the prisoners in the camp. Zap him quickly once he starts his spiel, or he will gun down one of the prisoners and you will fail to satisfy the achievement's condition.
Regardless how you complete the level, you will move on once you get through the door in the back of the Nazi camp.
